Introduction
When planning a new asphalt batching plant or upgrading a terminal, the bitumen storage system becomes the heart of your operation. For capacities exceeding 500 tons, standard containerized tanks are no longer sufficient—you need an infrastructure-grade solution.
However, not all large vertical tanks are created equal. Many bolted silos on the market suffer from leakage issues, while thin-walled tanks deform under pressure. At Feiteng, we believe in engineering transparency. Based on our proven 500m³ Vertical Bitumen Tank Production Plan, the following provides a technical breakdown of why our tank stands out in the global market.
1. Structural Integrity: Engineered for 500 Tons
The hydrostatic pressure exerted by 500,000 liters of hot bitumen is immense. A single, uniform wall thickness is a safety risk. Our tank body—measuring Ø9.7m in diameter and 7.4m in height—adopts a scientifically tiered structural design using high-quality Q235B Carbon Steel.
We engineer the tank body with five thickness tiers (each 1.5m high) to optimize strength and material efficiency:
- Bottom Tier (High Pressure Zone): 8mm (Actual: 7.75mm)
- Middle Tiers: 6mm → 5mm (graduated)
- Top Tier (Low Pressure Zone): 4mm
- Tank Bottom Plate: Reinforced 8mm steel
The Feiteng Difference:
Competitors often use bolted or screwed structures for ease of assembly, which are prone to leakage due to thermal expansion. Feiteng tanks are Fully Welded, ensuring a permanent, maintenance-free seal for the tank’s entire lifecycle.

2. The “Matrix-Flow” Heating System
Heating efficiency directly determines operational cost. Poorly designed coil layouts create “dead zones” where bitumen solidifies. Our tank features an expanded, uniform heating design based on seamless circulation.
Seamless Reliability:
All heating coils are manufactured using GB/T8163 Standard Seamless Steel Pipes (Φ57×3.5mm), eliminating the risk of weld-seam failure inside the tank.
Massive Heat Exchange Area:
With approximately 700 meters of internal piping, the system delivers a total heat exchange surface of 125.3 m².
Zonal Heating Control:
Designed with 4 independent circulation paths, each controlled by a dedicated valve. This allows operators to heat only the required bitumen volume rather than the entire tank.
Bonus Feature — Fast Heating Zone:
A built-in 20m³ Local Heater Area positioned near the outlet rapidly heats a small batch of bitumen for immediate dispatch, significantly reducing startup time.
3. The “Thermos Effect”: 100mm Insulation
Heat loss equals financial loss in bitumen terminals. While many export-grade tanks use only 50mm insulation, Feiteng delivers enhanced thermal efficiency.
- Insulation Layer: 100mm High-Density Rock Wool
- Outer Cladding: 0.5mm corrugated color steel
This insulation system creates a powerful “thermos effect,” allowing the stored bitumen to remain liquid for days without continuous heating and significantly reducing fuel consumption.
4. SKD Logistics & On-Site Assembly
A 9.7-meter-wide tank cannot be transported as a whole. Feiteng applies a Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) delivery method optimized for global deployment.
Factory Prefabrication:
All plates are rolled and beveled to exact curvature in our manufacturing facility.
Containerized Shipping:
Materials are packed into standard containers, avoiding expensive breakbulk transport.
On-Site Assembly:
Construction and welding require 25–30 days, supported by Feiteng’s method statement and optional engineer supervision.

5. Foundation & Installation Requirements
Before installation, the user must construct the foundation following Feiteng’s design standards. A Concrete Ring Beam Foundation is required with the following specifications:
- Diameter: 10.2 meters
- Elevation: 20–30cm above ground
- Foundation Layers: 50cm compacted gray soil + 50cm concrete
Critical Design Detail:
The center should incorporate a 12cm arch, topped with 3–5cm asphalt sand, to accommodate natural deformation of the steel bottom plate under heavy load.
6. Comprehensive Safety Accessories
Each 500-ton tank includes all essential safety and monitoring components:
- Lightning protection device
- Mechanical float level gauge
- Bimetal thermometer + PT100 sensor for dual temperature monitoring
- Spiral ladder and roof guardrails
Conclusion
A bitumen tank is a long-term infrastructure investment. With Feiteng’s 500m³ Vertical Bitumen Tank, you obtain a solution that combines high capacity, structural strength, heating efficiency, and global shipment flexibility.
